User Types

What is a User Type?

In Gangmates, a User Type is used to differentiate, organize, and manage users by grouping them into predefined categories. User Types allow you to categorize employees based on their type or classification, such as "Full-Time," "Part-Time," "Contractor," or "Intern."

It’s important to note that User Types are not currently used for assigning roles or permissions but serve as a way to classify and organize employees for streamlined management.

When to Use User Types?

User Types are useful in the following scenarios:

  1. Employee Classification: Group employees based on their type or work arrangement (e.g., permanent staff, contractors, interns).

  2. Data Organization: Easily filter and view users by their User Type to keep your directory organized.

  3. Workforce Insights: Generate reports or analytics segmented by User Type to understand workforce distribution.

For example:

  • A Full-Time User Type may represent permanent staff with standard benefits.

  • A Contractor User Type may represent external workers with specific contract terms.

How to Create User Types

To start categorizing your users, you need to create User Types first.

Step 1: Access the User Types Section

  1. Go to the Directory tab in the menu.

  2. Select User Types from the dropdown list.

Step 2: Add a New User Type

  1. Click on the Add User Types button.

  2. Enter the desired User Type Name (e.g., "Full-Time," "Part-Time," "Contractor").

  3. Click on the Save button to create the User Type.

Step 3: Ready for Use

Your new User Type is now successfully created and can be assigned to employees during their onboarding or management process.

Important Notes

  • Pre-requisite: You must create User Types before creating your first user.

  • Organizational Use: User Types are specifically designed to organize and manage employees, not to assign roles or permissions.

  • Best Practice: Define clear categories based on your organization's workforce structure to maintain consistency.
